2018 NAIFA-Iowa Four Under 40 Winner

Travis Risvold, FIC

Name: Travis Risvold

Designations: FIC

Company: Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial

Years in the Industry: 11

Hobbies: Spending time with my wife and son, church activities, music, football, history and current events.

What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?
Professionally, I still regard myself as a teacher (just with a much bigger classroom). I am committed to educating my small business and individual clients about ways to enhance their financial picture (whether it’s retirement, protection, a specific savings goal, whatever it may be). Personally and professionally, I believe in the power of relationships and in having as much fun each day as one possibly can. Life’s short and nothing’s certain – maximize the time you’ve got.

What’s your biggest accomplishment?
Starting out at the bottom and working my way up! My first years in the industry were a struggle, but I believed in the value I could bring people, and in the right way of implementing that value. I’m proud of where my practice is, and where it will go in the future.

What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?
One of the best lines I ever heard came from a guy I used to work with during my museum/education days, “Just remember, Travis, they honestly don’t know.” People don’t know the success they can achieve for their families, their employees, or themselves with a little forethought. I love responding to folks’ questions on employee retention, on getting short-term savings goals achieved, or on getting a specific plan in place for their family down the road.

What weakness do your friends and family know you for?
A good sandwich is hard to pass up.

What are you complimented on most in your work?
Hopefully, for listening carefully, asking a lot of (difficult but necessary) questions and finding workable answers for my clients.

Why are you a NAIFA member?
NAIFA provides us all an opportunity to ‘pull together’ – learn about new ideas or products, explain the ins and outs of the business to our elected leaders and build great relationships with others who care about people like we do.

How has NAIFA made a difference in your practice/life?
New/different sales ideas, meaningful friendships and powerful activism. NAIFA helped me tell the story of my career in a really detailed way, and allows me to add to that story going forward.
